What makes a logo a logo? I have noticed a tendency by many individuals and companies to insert as much information or “design elements” into a logo’s design as possible. I understand the desire to tell others about what it is you do or to create an impressive effect, but after examining what a logo’s purpose is and how the eye reacts to such logo designs, this is the wrong approach.

Have you ever noticed those small icons in the URL where you enter the web address of a website? These are what are known as “favicons”. Since visual elements are easier to remember, these can be used to attract visitors’ attention to the website. Favicons make it easier for a website to be remembered and get back to once needed. For example, if a visitor looks for your website in their browser’s bookmarks, they will more quickly recognize and locate your link. Favicons are valuable for the following purposes:
- support branding
- visual recognition
- makes a site more comfortable
